Lorain County Metro Parks officially adds Royal Oaks to Indian Hollow Reservation

Royal Oaks, a 97-acre former golf course turned fitness trail, officially joined the Lorain County Metro Parks Indian Hollow Reservation on Sept. 4.

Located at, 1057 Parsons Road in Grafton, the park features over two and a half miles of hiking trails, three fishing ponds and a half-mile dedicated fitness loop.


Columbia Library getting a new look after issues with flooding

The Lorain Public Library System, administrators and trustees have been working with Columbia Township and Lorain County officials after the library in the township experienced flooding issues.

Library trustees had held off on a full restoration after the most recent flooding incident in May 2014 until a more permanent solution to the problem was found.

Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria, has seen an increase in the number of participating students and high schools in its MyUniversity program.

The program allows area high school students to take college courses with the goal of graduating with an associate's degree as well as a high school diploma, and more than 90 percent of participating graduate with both, said Cindy Kushner, director of marketing and outreach initiatives at LCCC.

Amherst Cork and Stubby's co-owner, David Hansing, who was charged with rape involving one of his employees, is now being sued by the worker in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

The employee alleged Hansing committed the sexual assault at an Elyria pub.

Hansing, 41, of Avon, was charged with rape in March, according to court documents.

COLUMBUS (AP) - Democrats in the Ohio Legislature and some members of the state school board continued Friday to call for an independent investigation into actions of an ousted charter schools director even after volumes of the official's records were turned over to state authorities.

Their call came a day after the state Education Department released nearly 100,000 records to journalists and provided copies to state Auditor Dave Yost and Inspector General Randall Meyer.

In Lorain County, "we've had our ups and downs," said Harry Williamson, president of the Lorain County AFL-CIO.

Avon Aquatic Facility finishing year off strong

The Avon Aquatic Facility, 36265 Detroit Road in Avon, is rounding out a successful first season.

Between opening day, July 20, and Aug. 31, nearly 40,000 people attended the pool, and it sold approximately 2,500 season passes, said Tom Fattlar, aquatics project manager for the city of Avon.
