Ohio sending National Guard members, equipment, to North Carolina

COLUMBUS >> Ohio Gov. John Kasich has announced an agreement to send members of the Ohio Army National Guard and equipment to North Carolina to help with recovery from Hurricane Florence flooding.

A convoy was expected to leave Tuesday from the Army Enclave at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus.

An Elyria man is in trouble after police say he fired a gun at an occupied car Sept. 17.

Devontez L. Wilkerson, 20, was charged with five counts of felonious assault with a weapon, a second-degree felony, and two counts of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor, according to a Lorain police report.

The Lorain Public Library System North Ridgeville Branch, 35700 Bainbridge Road, incorporated a little bit of everything Sept. 17 to make their its entertaining for children.

"The program is Tales for Twos Story Times and it mostly consists of kids 2 years (old), hence the name, but we have some 3 year olds here as well," said Ally Morgan, youth services director for the branch.

Lorain police are investigating a fatal crash Sept. 12 involving a bicyclist, according to a news release.

Christopher Clifford, 51, of Caroline Avenue in Lorain, died from his fatal injuries in the crash.

At 9:32 p.m., the Lorain Police Department Traffic Bureau was called to the scene on West 21st Street, west of the intersection with Westpark Drive.

A 57-year-old Elyria man is facing charges and is accused of trying to set a Fairview Park home on fire, according to a police report.

On Aug. 30 at approximately 3:30 a.m. on older white male was spotted walking behind a home with a gas can at a resident on West 223rd Street. According to the report the man was attempting to set a gas grill on fire behind the home he believed belonged to his ex brother-in-law.

A Lorain man hopes the city will embrace a project that could create a new public dog park while paying tribute to his wife.

Kelly R. Tressel, 45, of Lorain, died July 14 in a motorcycle crash in Ottawa County.

Now her husband, Keith Tressel, 47, hopes to create a dog park to honor his wife, who was a dog lover her entire life.
